80 an hour 16 hours ago 16 hours ago 16 hours ago Description Under the direction of the Assistant City Manager/Director of Finance and supervised by the Utility Billing Supervisor.
Performs a variety of clerical and support functions requiring judgment and an understanding of utility operations.
Receives and processes applications for utility services; processes utility work orders; prepares monthly utility bills, penalties; disconnects; compiles and maintains accounts receivable customer files and records.
Employees in this class are responsible for considerable customer contact in person, through correspondence, and via telephone.
Must ensure the protection and confidentiality of customer/client information.
Incumbents perform tasks with minimal supervision.
Examples of Essential Functions EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Responsible for accurate water/sewer/garbage utility billing, including calculation of bills, preparation of file for printing of all utility bills and running and distributing post-billing reports.
Creates new utility accounts and sets up billing records in computer.
Provides information to customers by verifying understanding of request, answering questions; offering assistance.
Corresponds/communicates with public for inquires regarding amounts owed, payment options, customer work orders and customer complaints.
Ensuring that all information is kept confidential regarding residents records.
Updates meter reads, prepares daily list for meter reader, prepares work orders for Meter Technician and dispatches technicians to utility calls.
Posts penalties on utility billing system, prepares various notices to be mailed, including notices of insufficient funds Reviews account records and aging reports to determine delinquency of utility accounts, prints disconnection notices and work orders Receives garbage complaints forwards to contractor, tracks missed pickups and follows up with contractor and residents.
Required to report for work punctually, work all scheduled hours, and any required overtime as deemed necessary.
Must maintain a physical condition and standards necessary for the proper performance of duties, with or without accommodation.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS Receives and processes utility billing mail, and posts all mail receipts.
Functions in a relief capacity for the department Cashier.
Performs related work as directed.

) Education and Experience REQUIREMENTS A.
Training and
Experience:
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by one (1) to two (2) years work experience in modern office support functions, to include keyboard skills, broad knowledge of modern office equipment, and public service; data entry or an equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities; Bilingual is highly preferred.
B.

Working knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices.
Working knowledge of account billing principles and practices.
Working knowledge of record keeping and filing principles.
Skill in operating a variety of modern office equipment.
Ability to establish and maintain effective communication with departmental personnel and customers position interacts with.
Ability to review work performed for efficient results and accuracy.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide; calculate decimals and percentages.
