44 an hour Description Under the supervision of the Recreation Superintendent, employee plans, coordinates and supervises recreation programs and events for the City including fee-based classes, non-fee based programs, senior programs, outdoor recreation programs and special events.
Must have thorough knowledge of recreation programming and special events.
Examples of Essential Functions Exercises judgment, creativity and discretion when planning, organizing, budgeting and supervising various recreational programs, activities, projects and special events for all segments of the population, usually with a six to twelve month lead-time prior to the event.
Provide excellent communication skills to deliver quality customer service at all times.
Greets public, answers telephone, provides information and registers participants.
Investigates and resolves citizen complaints concerning, instructors, or the facilities.
Responsible for coordinating and communicating employee wellness activities and programs and creates and implements new programs and special events.
Communicate various programs with other City and department personnel to inform them of activity involvement and anticipated assistance (i.
e.
Parks Division, Facility Maintenance, Police and Fire Departments).
Public Relations, markets and promotes programs through recreation publications, newsletters, flyers and other media.
Coordinates with City departments, community organizations and school districts regarding facility availability and scheduling.
Purchases and procures supplies, materials, equipment for programs and special events.
Hires part-time staff and contractors involved in programs, special events and activities.
Trains, supervises and evaluates part-time staff members and contract employees.
Supervise and coordinate daily operations and safety of The Center including scheduling staff, rentals, money handling and facility inspections.
Required to report for work punctually, work all scheduled hours, and any required overtime as deemed necessary.
Must maintain a physical condition and standards necessary for the proper performance of duties, with or without accommodation.
Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree in Parks and Recreation or related field required, supplemented by a minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience.
A minimum of one (1) year supervisory experience preferred.
Applicant must possess a valid Texas driver's license or obtain within 30 days of hire.

Knowledge of principles and practices in public relations, marketing and promoting community recreation programs and events.
Considerable knowledge of principles of effective administration, to include planning, coordinating, hiring, evaluating and supervision.
Considerable knowledge of recreation program budgeting principles.
Skills in both written and oral communications for effective expression and clarity.
Considerable knowledge of report and record maintenance principles and procedures.
Considerable knowledge of computer software applications relating to the development of the department brochure and program fliers, creating databases, spreadsheets and word processing and program registration software.
Ability to be creative and respond to a wide variety of citizen needs.
Ability to respond to citizen input/complaints with considerable tact and courtesy.
Ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions in accordance with established City policies and procedures.
Ability to analyze, organize and review work for efficient results and accuracy.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, support staff, contracted personnel, volunteers, participants, and other departments with which the position interacts.
